As Season 3 of The Pull Up Podcast Show with Coach Tony Thompson continues to grow and inspire, Monday night’s episode marked a special milestone—one that Coach Tony Thompson (Chicago Made) described as both “phenomenal” and “personal.” In a heartfelt, humorous, and wisdom-packed conversation, Coach Tony honored five graduating seniors from St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville, Tennessee: Mia Galassini, Didi Umeujeje, CeCe Phillips, Dalton Vaughn, and Marla Kosinski. Known affectionately as “The Magnificent Five,” these student-athletes represent resilience, sisterhood, and a powerful legacy.

Coach Tony, a seasoned mentor and head coach with more than 25 years of experience, opened the episode with infectious energy and deep gratitude for the young women who shaped this basketball season. “I’m losing five of my girls—and these aren’t just players, they’re family,” he said, emphatically. The conversation that followed was a mix of laughter, life lessons, and raw reflection, embodying the spirit of Spirit Week—a new Pull Up tradition celebrating exceptional student-athletes.

The Power of Passion: Falling in Love with the Game

Each young woman shared how she fell in love with basketball, revealing the influence of family, older siblings, and the thrill of team sports. Mia recalled, “Even when I was little, they had me out shooting outside in the driveway—it was a family thing.” Marla echoed that sentiment, saying, “Seeing how much my dad loved coaching us made me want to keep getting better.” CeCe discovered joy in basketball at age nine—balancing it with soccer and lacrosse. Dalton, already a decorated golfer, said, “I just love the competitive nature and being on a team.” Didi added, “I was always tall for my class, so it just made sense—but it was really my sister who inspired me to start.”

Balance, Discipline, and Sisterhood

Beyond basketball, these scholars juggle impressive academic loads and extracurriculars. First of all, Dalton is a state champion golfer and the class valedictorian. Second of all, Didi is a choreographer and leader in the school’s dance program. And impressively, CeCe plays three varsity sports. Marla and Mia added softball to their plates senior year, illustrating that trying something new—even if you’re not perfect at it—can be deeply rewarding. FYI: Karla, a decorated basketball and softball player, convinced Mia to step out during her senior year and try a new adventure by joining the softball team, where she was a natural and did well.

Comparatively, CeCe shared, “You really have to be willing to put in the extra work,” while reflecting on how balancing multiple sports, like softball and basketball, takes real commitment—not just to the sport, but to academics and time management. Mia emphasized that same spirit of dedication, saying, “If basketball’s your sport, you have to make it your top priority.”

No Let Down: The Motto That Defined a Season

The team’s motto this year was “No Let Down,” a phrase that resonated far beyond the court. “You can’t really get down on yourself,” said Didi. “Basketball keeps going—you’ve got to push through.” Mara explained it as playing for more than just yourself. “If you don’t rely on your teammates, the plays and everything you’ve built crumble.” CeCe, reflecting on her first three-pointer, said, “It was something I worked on a lot. Hitting that shot reminded me not to let myself—or my team—down.” Coach Tony’s dedication to the motto and to his players was a theme throughout the episode. “You knew us on a personal level,” said Didi. “You gave us life skills we’ll bring into our professional lives.”

College-Bound and Dream-Driven

As the podcast reached its final quarter, Coach Tony celebrated their college decisions and career aspirations:

  • Mia Galassini and CeCe Phillips will attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mia was accepted into the nursing program, while CeCe plans to transition from biology into nursing.
  • Marla Kosinski will attend Pellissippi State and pursue a pre-med track in biology.
  • Didi Umeujeje will head to Stanford University to major in neuroscience, with hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon.
  • Dalton Vaughn is bound for Notre Dame to study political science on a pre-law track.

“Each of you is walking into your next chapter ready,” Coach Tony said. “But don’t forget—I’ll always be just one call away.”

Legacy in Motion

This episode captured more than a senior send-off—it encapsulated legacy. These five young women mentored younger teammates, helped shape a new team culture, and balanced excellence on the court with achievement off it.

“This is why I call them The Magnificent Five,” Coach Tony said. “I’ve coached a lot of teams in my 25 years, but this group right here—they’ve left an imprint.”
